What’s Happening and What’s New on Netflix

Netflix on a smartphone

The festive month is here. December brings with itself the good news of Christmas, a lot of celebrations that last a couple of days and mega sales. All good news in the air this month. But Netflix has a bit of both for you. Some shows on Netflix will be leaving (a sad bit of the news) while some new will be coming as well.

I have my Cox Ultimate Internet subscription ready to binge-watch all the new shows and movies. What about you?

Shows Leaving Netflix

Following is the list of shows that Netflix will no longer air (tears of agony).

Life

This is rather bad news because Life is one of the most-watched crime drama television series. With an IMDb rating of 8.3, the show was created by Rand Ravich. It aired for only two seasons on NBC but was a popular series. The shows star Damian Lewis who plays the lead role (Charlie Crews). His character in the show is a detective who comes out of jail after a long period of 12 years. Crews went to jail for a crime that he did not commit.

The show first aired in 2007 and after its last episode aired in 2009, it discontinued.

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown

This show now has an emotional feel to it as well after the great chef and travel and food show host Anthony Bourdain passed away. The special thing about the show was not food but how Bourdain discovered the lesser-known areas and introduced the viewers with their popular cuisines. In his quest to search for the best food in these not-so-popular destinations he also introduced the people to their culture. Thus, making for an interesting mix.

This series was so popular that it also received a Primetime Emmy Award for the category ‘Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction or Reality Series’. The sad part is that Anthony was working on another episode for his show in Strasbourg, France when he passed away.

Pulp Fiction

This 1994 American crime film is a classic that people admire to date. Directed by Quentin Tarantino, Pulp Fiction is famous for its punchy dialogues. The movie was a turning point for actors like John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson who received Academy Award nominations for their roles. Thus, boosting their careers as well. The movie itself won various awards including Academy awards and Palme d’Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

While this was the list of some of the shows and movies leaving Netflix, let’s get to the good news now.

New Shows on Netflix

Marriage Story

Marriage Story is not for the faint-hearted. Although it is a comedy-drama film it leaves a rather strong impact on the viewers. The powerful dialogue deliverance apart from the psychological effect that divorce can leave on families moves a person to the core. It puts one into deep thought. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Laura Dern, Ray Liotta, and Adam Driver, Marriage Story was chosen as one of the ten best films for the year by many institutes. Hence, making it a must-watch.

Sweet Virginia

Sweet Virginia is not as sweet a watch as its name. It is a crime drama film that premiered in 2017. It was written by Paul China and Benjamin China. The cast for the movie includes Jon Bernthal, Imogen Poots, and Odessa Young. The film starts in the setting of a bar where an angry man refuses to leave after being told that the bar was not open for service any more. And the rest you need to see it for yourself for a thrilling watch.

New Netflix

From Paris with Love

This French action film released in 2010 and stars John Travolta apart from Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The story revolves around the U.S. ambassador in Paris, James Reese. Reese lives an enviable; life and has a gorgeous French girlfriend. Reese is not happy with the current job and finds his side job in the CIA as his real passion. He aims to work as a high-level agent who helps to resolves the crime cases.

Lucky Reese receives his first call when he gets appointed to assist Charlie Wax on a case after there is a shortage of agents in France. You will have to watch the movie to see how interesting events unwind.

Apart from the above-mentioned list, many other shows and movies are coming to Netflix this month. This includes Outlander, The Sky is Pink, A Family Man, Lawless and Tomorrow Never Dies. Till then I shall make do with the new channel list I got from my Cox cable support. Cord-cutting is not an option for me because I always watch TV even if it’s for half an hour.
