Udonis Haslem was born on June 9, 1980, in Miami, Florida, U.S.A. His father, John, was also a basketball player who played basketball for the Stetson Hatters from 1972-1974. His mother, Debra, was Puerto Rican. Haslem attended two high schools when he was young. He first went to Wolfson High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and later to Miami Senior High School, Miami, Florida.
